MY STORY
From American visitor to South African permanent resident and Social Entrepreneur — my journey's been guided by indigenous wisdom and a commitment to regenerative prosperity.
For as long as I can recall, I've been a social entrepreneur. My journey from the United States to South Africa, in 1998, was more than a change of country — it was a homecoming to a way of being, doing and thinking about business. Honouring the ancestral and traditional wisdom of South Africa's people, while creating pathways to prosperity.
Nearly three decades later, still living, working, and building on the African continent, I've created "Ancestral Business Models", enterprise solutions, consulting and frameworks, based on life's principles and regenerative design bridging ancient African wisdom priniciples. This, from "Root to Fruit" approach goes beyond creating traditional profit models, to embracing and innovating alongside traditional value systems that span millennia.
Philosophically and practically, this approach forms the foundation of everything I do: creating enterprises that strengthen rather than deplete, collaborations that honour the authentic connections between earth, air, sea, land and sky and scalable commercial ventures, that seek first to create jobs within local dispossessed economies.
PHILOSOPHY & Practice
Ancestral business models, prioritize indigenous knowledge systems and honour the interconnectedness of plants, people, and place. Through three successive enterprises and our LithaFlora Foundation, these ventures connect ancient ecological wisdom to modern innovation, creating opportunities for regenerative growth in Southern African communities. Our brand pillars: community education, job creation, and indigenous plant conservation demonstrate how both commerce and ecology can thrive by mimic-ing nature; creating value through collaboration, building regenerative inter-relational systems, and establishing authentic connections.
"Social entrepreneurship has offered me the opportunity to engage creativity, deep compassion and to find impactful collaborative solutions to common human problems."
APPROACH
At its core, my enterprise development approach generates authentic relationships. We source ingredients, products, craftsmanship from local knowledge holders, suppliers, manufacturers and establish supply chains that foster genuine community development, both formally and informally. Beyond marketing concepts to embrace deep and meaningful engagement.
Sourcing and producing indigenous plant-based products — skincare, herbal health teas, healing oils, and tinctures — from the South African fynbos biome.
Empowering African youth and women through employment, skills development, and educational programs that preserve cultural knowledge while building economic resilience.
Making indigenous plant conservation economically viable — demonstrating that business success and environmental protection can be mutually reinforcing.
IMPACT MODEL
My vision extends beyond traditional business success to encompass regenerative models that ensure plants, people, and places can thrive together.
Keeping economic benefits within African communities through sourcing strategies that support local producers and preserve traditional methods.
Making indigenous plant preservation economically viable by demonstrating the commercial value of sustainable harvesting and processing.
Every business decision considers impacts on future generations — ensuring that today's success creates opportunities for tomorrow.
Valuing the full contribution of natural and human systems — understanding that thriving communities depend on thriving ecosystems.
My regenerative approach creates positive feedback loops where business success directly contributes to ecological and social well-being. The model serves not just shareholders, but all stakeholders — including the plants, animals, and ecosystems that make life possible.
A roadmap for entrepreneurs worldwide who seek to create businesses that truly make the world a better place.
